Down Light Coolers
With the fast increased light efficacy and efficiency, the market of LED down lighting has seen a complete turnaround in the last years. Just a few years ago we would need a massive bulky LED cooler, or either something active with a fan on top, just to keep our 3000-4000 lumen down light at the temperature we would require.Today the compete market of down lighting and shop lighting has switched over to passive LED cooling, with sizes as small as diameter 67mm. Also the cost for these down light and shop light LED coolers has been equally reduced over time - what was in the past one of the most expensive parts of the luminaire, now counts for much less in the overall cost. Size reduction and price reduction has also led to more room for practical designs, where the strain relief is adopted into the cooler, the cables are hidden into wire channels so the cooler becomes part of the overall design.
Although the LED cooler is in most cases not visible any more after installation, its looks still play a big part in the overall looks of the design when showcasing it to the final customer. High-end design looks and a continuous strive to change are the tasks our development team are facing day-by-day. Colors and impact on cooling performance - we dare you to use your creativity, because most what you might have heard about impact of color on cooling performance is inadequate information - yes, color matter, but not in the way we experience color as a visual aspect. Most colors and surface finishes like electro-plating or even painting have nearly no negative effect on the overall cooling performance of your design. Don't forget your thermal interface material! By choosing the right interface material, you not only reduce the overall temperature of your LED junctions and increase as a result the life time, it also is a guarantee for consistency in the manufacturing. On the other hand the application of thermal interface material can become rather expensive and a time and labor intensive. Therefore we advise you to use our pre-assembly services on thermal interface materials - see "LED thermal interface materials". The higher the power of your application, the more crucial this knowledge on thermal interfacing will become.
